Recruitment & retention of Health professionals is of utmost importance. Currently, I am part of a group that is trying to recruit Physicians to a rural practice. We have met roadblock after roadblock in this effort, mostly put up by the College of Phycicians & Surgeons. Until there is more understanding of rural issues & some support in this area, many communities will be without primary care & these controlling bodies don't seem to get it. Only Sask. & Man. require the CAPE exam for international Drs. Can we not look at ways to mentor these foreign trained people before we become third world rural areas.
